If your nephew never manually saved, then you can load the manual save slot and it should be your original save, but otherwise it is all gone. This just happened to me as well. Totk is "super-botw," and for comparison, if botw were skyrim, totk would be ME: shadow of war, but the unpopular opinion is ME: SoW actually is better than Skyrim and the same applies here, just there are so many functions and bugs for what they charged $70 store price for.
